July 10, 2011. WBLA Staff honored by local church
WBLA was honored by Baldwin Branch Missionary Baptist Church in Elizabethtown. The church honored WBLA with the 2011 Community Service Award which is presented to that business or those businesses exemplifying outstanding service to the community. The church started the award program in 20xx and has awarding companies for outstanding service to date. WBLA's president Michael Boykin says that it is an honor to provide a service that has such an impact to the community. Afternoon personality, Debbie Heyward, adds "the service we provide is ministry.

WBLA started operating with the gospel format on May 1st, 2009 under the leadership of Michael Boykin as president, Tamlin Henry as General Manager, Rick Rhoda as Program Director and Derwood Clark (no longer with the company) as Music Director. The company chose to provide 24 hour programming to serve a variety of consumers from a broad range of demographics. "I remember receiving a call from an elderly lady residing at a local Elderly Care Center" recalls Rick Rhoda. "She called in to my show to share about her past" adds Rhoda. Later, he visited with her and she told him what the radio station meant to her. "That's ministry", proclaims Rhoda. Ebony Jackson, the current music director, adds "it's really tough to program music for such a broad range of listeners but it is all worth it when they call to tell me that they are loving the music".

WBLA is also known as Shine 1440 and may be found at 1440 on the AM Dial.
